Hello!!

Hi everyone! I decided to start this blog so everyone could keep up with us. With our house being a virtual deadzone for cell phones (where's Anthony Michael Hall when you need him?), I figured you could check in on us here.

The title of the blog comes from North Carolina's state motto: "Esse quam videri" in Latin meaning "To be rather than to seem". It is a line from Cicero's "On Friendship". The complete sentence in Latin is Virtute enim ipsa non tam multi praediti esse quam videri volun. in English that means "Fewer possess virtue, than those who wish us to believe that they possess it". I feel like Maximus in Gladiator. FYI, PA's motto is "Virtue, Liberty, and Independence"... also really cool.

So we have spent a full week in the new house as of Sunday night (last night). We are no longer sleeping on the floor, and we have cable and internet. Thumbs up for no more squatting at McDonalds for free WiFi!! Of course, Mike has only spend about 5 days total in the new house since he has had so many obligations for work.

Our stuff is now here... thanks to the movers that broke everything we own. Seriously, every piece of furniture they brought in except for the metal bed frame, the day bed, the couch, and the recliner have visible scratches (best case scenario) or are ruined. I'm kind of upset about that because we don't have much stuff, and what we do have I would have liked to keep for at least a little while longer since we are in no position to buy new furniture. Lesson learned. Don't hire a guy whose business card reads (moving, handyman, delivery service, and tutor).

I have unpacked most of the kitchen. The cabinet space is amazing compared to the house in State College. Also, the panty is ENORMOUS... I can't wait to go to The Container Store and get all kinds of organizational goodies for it! Of course, I will need a job to do that.

I had 2 interviews for a PT supervisor position at a retail store. Of course this isn't my dream job, but I am hoping that it works out because it would be nice to have a paycheck again. I think the interviews went well (the second one was a phone interview... those are a little more difficult to read since you can't see your interviewer). I also have an interview on Tuesday for a job at Petsmart. It isn't very glamorous, but we could most definitely use the discount!!

So, for now, it's just me and the doggies at home every day. As much as I enjoy being with them, I am going a little stir crazy in the house. However, we have made SIGNIFICANT steps in Beesly's house training! Also, Beesly loves chasing the rogue flies that find their way into our house. She is like a ninja.

Well, that is all for now! Talk to you all soon!

Love,
Lauran

  1. I love the mental image of Beesly chasing the flies. She doesn't do anything less than 100%. She is a lot of fun to watch.
